Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about hiking the Amata Canyon and valley trails near Cēsis
Most of our guided walks are between 2.5 to 4 hours, which includes time for rest breaks, photos, and taking in the scenery. We focus on a relaxed pace—there's no rush—so you can enjoy the riverside paths and sandstone cliffs without feeling pressured.
Our valley trails are designed for active seniors with modest fitness levels. We offer different routes—some completely flat along the river, others with gentle elevation changes. We'll help match you with a hike that suits your comfort level, and our guides adjust the pace as we go.
Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support are essential—hiking boots aren't always necessary on our valley trails. What matters most is that your footwear has grip and supports your feet on uneven ground. We've got a detailed packing checklist on our site if you'd like specific recommendations.
We keep groups small—usually 6 to 10 people maximum. This means our guides can really pay attention to everyone's needs and answer questions without rushing. It also makes for better conversation and a more personal experience exploring the canyon.
Late spring through early autumn (May to September) is ideal—the weather's mild, paths are clear, and the sandstone cliffs really shine. We also run autumn walks in October when the colors are spectacular. Winter hiking is possible but requires different preparation, so it's best to ask us directly about seasonal options.
Tell us when you book—we're used to working with hikers managing joint issues or mobility challenges. Our guides know techniques for steep sections, can suggest the flattest routes, and we always build in plenty of breaks. We're here to make this work for you, not the other way around.
